When a watch already blurs the line between horology and art, drawing it in graphite feels like stepping into another dimension.
That’s exactly how it felt working on: “The Playground”, a conceptual graphite portrait of the MB&F Legacy Machine, and one that’s been personally approved by Max Büsser, founder of MB&F (Maximilian Büsser & Friends).
After months of work, I’m thrilled to share that Max has not only given his blessing to the piece but also to a very limited run of 25 signed prints, available now. Each print is priced at £150, and can be purchased directly from me via email: sophiescottlewis@gmail.com

The Concept
MB&F has always redefined what a watch can be: sculptures for the wrist, mechanical artworks that challenge convention. When I began sketching the Legacy Machine, I wanted to honour that creativity not just by drawing it faithfully, but by reimagining its world entirely.
On closer inspection of The Playground, you’ll find that this isn’t just a watch portrait. Beneath the suspended balance wheel and within the layered dial architecture, tiny figures come to life: tightrope walkers, a shark, an astronaut, and other hidden characters, each symbolising curiosity, risk, and exploration. These miniature scenes playfully occupy the space inside the movement, turning the dial into a dreamscape, a world inside a watch.
As a graphite artist, I’m fascinated by precision and patience, qualities shared by both watchmakers and draughtsmen. The MB&F Legacy Machine’s domed crystal, intricate bridges, and otherworldly mechanics challenged every ounce of that patience. Each reflective surface demanded control; every shadow had to echo the quiet motion of time suspended mid air.
A Watchmaker’s Blessing
When Max Büsser first saw the completed drawing, his reaction left me speechless. To have the founder of MB&F — a brand so defined by imagination and craftsmanship — personally approve The Playground was a moment I’ll never forget.
That endorsement makes this piece especially meaningful, and I’m honoured to be offering a limited edition of 25 fine art prints, each hand-signed and numbered. Whether you’re a collector, a watch enthusiast, or simply someone who loves the blend of storytelling and design, this artwork brings MB&F's spirit of creativity into your own space.

A Few Words From a Customer
Frederic, USA
"I just received an absolutely incredible piece of art, and I had to share it with you all.
I’ve always loved art. And I’ve always loved watches—both for the engineering marvels they are and for the artistry behind them. What blows my mind is how an artist can create entire worlds from imagination and pull us into them with nothing but pencil and paper.
When I was a kid, there were these stores called Consumer Distributing (the English name of Distribution aux consommateurs). They had this « wild » concept: no regular aisles, just little counters with laminated catalogues. You’d write down item codes on a sheet, hand it over, and a few minutes later your name would be called and your items would appear from the back.
We never got to see the warehouse. And as a young boy, that mystery made my imagination run wild—rails, robots, mechanical grips, something futuristic and magical happening behind the scenes. To me, the unseen machinery was the story.
This drawing—this hand-drawn Legacy Machine with tiny characters inhabiting the movement—brought all that childhood imagination rushing back in a way I didn’t expect.
I genuinely feel honored to be one of the lucky few who gets to lose themselves in this piece.
Sophie Scott-Lewis is the incredibly talented artist who created this art piece, and I’m so grateful. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect representation of everything I love: art, watchmaking, and that spark of wonder we sometimes forget we had as kids.
Thank you, Sophie. Truly—from the bottom of my heart."
